Induz’s Culture Connect Program strives to use art as a medium to bring diverse communities and cultures together. At Culture Connect events, people share information about their culture through the art, music, dance, food, and clothing that identifies them. Induz’s aim is to educate audiences about the traditions and nuances of different countries and cultures to enable better appreciation of each other. Induz believes that understanding of all cultures brings harmony to diverse people and builds a world community, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area, a melting pot of all cultures.
In June 2010, Induz, in association with the Alameda County Library, presented “Beauty of India,” a costume showcase and cultural presentation about the customs and traditions of this ancient and vibrant culture. It was a free event for the public. “Beauty of India” featured a traditional costume showcase; Bollywood and traditional dance performances by Kriyaa Dance Company; and a henna booth. Members of the audience learned facts about the 28 states of India during the costume fashion show and enjoyed trying on costumes and being photographed.
A movie night with Indian snacks and chai (tea) is being planned in association with the Alameda County Library, to be followed by another event that will feature food from different parts of India, with live cooking demonstrations. In the coming months, Induz will organize more events as part of the Culture Connect series. They will showcase various world cultures, including other Asian cultures such as those of the Philippines and Japan.
