The Tulika Project at Biswabandhu Mission, Katwa, India

Project Location: Biswabandhu Mission, village in Burdwan district of West Bengal, India

Induz reached yet another milestone (Project Tulika) in its mission to connect people and culture around the world through Art! After the success of two Tulika programs in Assam and Bangalore, the Induz team reached out to the children of Biswabandhu Mission in an obscure village in Burdwan district of West Bengal, India. Induz provided a canvas to the children by sponsoring a Drawing School.

Biswabandhu Mission is a charitable welfare organization, which offers education to the orphans, socially & economically, challenged minority children by providing them with an unique and ideal academic environment. The philanthropic idea was the brainchild of Dr. Biswanath Bala, - Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Awardee & the Headmaster of Rajua-Churpuni Amala Vidyapith located in the same Burdwan district in Bengal.

The residents of Biswabandhu Mission are provided two square meals along with two snacks a day. To keep up to the needs of the present days the children are given access to a charitable computer training centre, where they are trained on basic computer skills. The medical needs of the children are catered to as well by a local charitable dispensary.
A charitable sewing training centre has also been engaged so that the underprivileged children can pursue a creative interest along with their academics. All these have been made possible under the able leadership & supervision of Dr. Biswanath Bala.

Induz supported this very noble cause of sponsoring an Art School for the children in Biswabandhu Mission complex. Art in any form had been a distant dream so far to these tender hearts at Biswabandhu Mission. With the opening of the Art School, Induz helped in unfolding their dreams into reality. The drawing centre was inaugurated on  June 21 2010. Sri Raj Kumar Ghosh, a renowned educationist, was the chief guest on the occasion. He was delighted with the idea that the students living in a remote village will now have a great opportunity to acquaint themselves with art. He appreciated the effort of Induz which has come forward with a solemn vow to develop and nurture artistic acumen in these under privileged children. Mr.Ghosh stated “It is our expectation that some of the students here will make their career trained in this course. It is highly appreciated that Biswabandhu Mission along with the patronage of the organization, Induz made it possible to explore artistic aptitude in the school going children and cultivate the artistic qualities in them which were lying latent so far.” Mr. Ghosh conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the sponsor & the organizer and wished this endeavor a great success.

Md.Kamaruzzaman, an educationist too, was the special guest on the occasion. He thanked both Biswabandhu Mission and Induz for undertaking such a benevolent project in the remote part of  Bengal where the scores of families cannot make their ends meet, owing to severe poverty. The parents can hardly provide books, uniforms etc. to their children, even if they so desire to. Biswabandhu Mission accommodates the poorest of the poor, orphans, minority students and helps them to accomplish their otherwise impossible missions of seeing the light of education, getting square meals a day etc.

Mr. Partha Sarathi Mondal the art teacher stated that he feels privileged to have a chance to offer artistic guidance to the children and draw a smile on their innocent faces, every time he walks into the class. He assured that he will try to train the students to the best of his capability.

The Project Tulika has emerged as a perfect example of ‘Unity in Diversity’ with the patronage and sponsorship of Induz at Biswabandhu Mission. More than 60 students are benefited by the Project. Now the students are very glad to be the proud owners of their own personal drawing kits.

Induz takes this opportunity to thank Mousumi Chatterjee for being the chief coordinator in US for the Project and discharging every responsibility involved so effectively and seamlessly. Also, without the able supervision of Mousumi’s father, Mr. Ratan Sengupta at the local level in Bengal, Induz would not have seen its final success in Project Tulika. Thank you a whole bunch, Mr.Sengupta. Induz would like to thank Debashis Saha, Induz Executive Board member and his mother, Mrs. Roma Saha for identifying the project and all their support and dedication.

Ray Mitra, Founder of Induz stated “During my trip lat year to the Children’s home, I met with the children and the Dr. Bala and realized how much an art program could benefit them and I am glad that the Induz team could make it happen”.
