ART EDUCATION: GIVING CHILDREN A CHANCE TO CHANGE THE WORLD
KRIA World Fusion Music & Dance Concert to Benefit Art Programs
SILICON VALLEY, CA. – Since the 1970s school art and music programs across the United States have been drastically cut. The situation is even worse in developing countries. Statistics from the National Assessment of Eductaion and Progress show that students deprived of art education score much lower in basic skills. Art improves a child's early cognitive development, raises self-esteem, and promotes self expression.
Induz, a Bay Area non-profit, is addressing this problem. Induz provides art education for our children and in so doing connects people and cultures through the magic of “The Arts.” “Art is immensely important yet it seems to constantly take a backseat in today’s society” said Ray Mitra, founder of Induz. ”That needs to change. When people learn about the different forms of art from different cultures; when they are exposed to different communities and really see the beauty and benefit of what these cultures have to offer, lives change.”
To bring this message home, Induz has organized a concert on September 20th 2008 at Santa Clara Convention Center, to raise funds for projects in both the United States and India. The KRIA World Fusion Music & Dance Concert will feature a unique blend of world music and dance. Performed by local and internationally acclaimed artists, the concert will depict the theme of “KRIA,” which is Sanskrit for “Action.” Mayor of Milpitas, Jose Esteves, who is on the advisory board of Induz, tells us, “This concert is an opportunity to not only raise funds but also to draw attention to the benefits of art.” Guest of Honor and Hollywood star, Faran Tahir, who performed in the blockbuster “Iron Man,” as well as Star Trek XI and Lost, said “I’m here because I believe the Kria concert can be a catalyst to bring the wonders of art to every child in every country.”
Headlining are Grammy nominee, santoor maestro, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya who performed with music legends like George Harrison of the Beatles and Ravi Shankar; Master percussionist and composer Abhishek Basu, accompanied by Jazz musicians Jim Wendt and Erik Everett. The fusion dance production will feature several styles of dances from Flamenco to Indian Classical, Contemporary to Ballet. Prominent dance companies will join forces to visually express the various stages that are taken to result in Action, the theme for the evening’s show. A silent auction will also be held featuring the donated art pieces of local Bay Area artists.
Said Mitra, “Art – all art, be it music, dance, painting or any other form – is a medium for bringing diverse cultures and communities together. That’s our vision. We see the point of “connection” as being Where Art Meets Heart. If we can accomplish that for our children then the world of their future will be a peaceful and happy place.”
Tickets for KRIA range from $20-$150 depending on seating and VIP privileges and can be purchased online at
